The korant is the most popular and most frequently seen traditional carnival image from Ptujsko polje. According to traditional beliefs, the korant is a demon who chased away winter and awakened nature to spring, life and growth. In present times, although it has lost its former mission and function, it still arouses special feelings inpeople: there is still something mysterious and powerful in it.

The parish chronicle of Sv. Marko niže Ptuja, present-day Markovci, records that the korant has a hat which is hairy at the back. The facial part is made of old leather with a stitched-on nose, cut-out holes for eyes and mouth and a long red tongue. The entire facial part is white. On top the cap has horns made of leather or felt, while at the end of each horn there is a goose feather. It wears a sheepskin coat turned inside-out. A cow bell is tied to its back, warning of its approach. It carries a hedgehog-tipped stick, serving as a defence. Its horrific appearance suggests that it came straight from hell and fraternised with Lucifer himself. Using this historic description it was recreated in Markovci and included in the traditional caring point is accessible by carnival image of the village. And the starting point is accessible by car.
