LAS9- Snakes Head

The leaves are long and narrow placed one after another around the stalk. Snake's head grows only on very damp areas, mostly in marshes, damp mead-ows and other damp places all over the continent, from western Europe to Caucasus. It blooms at the end of March and beginning of April. Since these plants are fond of damp areas, they are endangered especially in Europe, because there are less and less habitats due to drying and working the soil. In some countries this plant is very rare. In Slovenia, you can find it only in Ljubljansko barje, in Krako¬vski forest and in the north-east of the country; one of the oldest habitats is around the village of Trnovska vas. The species is protected in Slovenia.
